Microsoft Delays Security Update
The Backup, Wipe and Reinstall..Oh My
The BWR..
Every week we perform this service for our customers. It's important to understand what the service actually means. To preserve your personal data it's important to save or copy your USER data located under the USER folder. There can many of these USER accounts depending on who uses the computer. We collect or copy out all that data and will reinstall it back to your hard drive when the wipe is complete and the OS is reinstalled. What we call a wipe is a format of the drive whether it's a HDD or SSD. On some occasions it may be necessary to securely wipe the drive because of a serious virus you have on your drive. Formatting wipes the slate so to speak, and gives your a clean palate and allows the reinstall of the OS or operating system. For more information on formatting a hard drive, try googling "format a hard drive" for a more technical explanation. The reinstall consist of installing the OS of whatever operating system you need, whether that is Windows, Linux, etc. In addition to the OS, many operating systems will require many updates downloaded and installed to bring the computer to a current and usable status for you to use it. There can be many reasons why a BWR is needed, but it's a great way to start fresh and begin again when you need to.
Slow Computers
Every week we see slow computers and most times it's not the computer or hardware that is the problem. Most times it's the software or the corruption of the software by malware or virus that is slowing it down. It can be very frustrating trying to use a computer in this condition, but it's not really the computer's fault and most people don't realize that. The solution is to reinstall the OS or operating system and begin fresh.
WARNING ABOUT PHONE SCAMMERS
When electronics go Bad..
So if you look very closely at the above image there are leaking capacitors on the motherboard. Sadly that's most likely all that is wrong with it. The downside of this repair is that it takes time to remove and replace them and given the age of the board not very cost effective.
Hacking
Just a reminder that if a message pops up on your screen and it says you have a virus and to call the phone number listed, DO NOT CALL. This is a known scam. Microsoft or the FBI will not call you. Don't be the victim of this scam. Google the number that just called you, chances are you will quickly discover it's not Microsoft calling and that it's a scam.

Hard Drive Maintenance
Every week if not every day we see hard drives in need of maintenance. Microsoft provides these tools in every OS or operating system they have released. We encourage everyone to do a little maintenance on your hard drive. Two of these simple tools to use are Defragmentation and Check Disk. They are located under properties in each drive on your computer.
